Infinity May Not Exist Except in Our Nostalgia for the Original State, Lost from the Garden of Eden

We argue the hypothesis that infinity does not exist in physical reality; it is only a mathematical concept. If, from a physical point of view, infinity does not exist, then we can neither speak of a continuum, and as a consequence neither of an infinitely small and dense Big Bang singularity, because the notion of singularity is strictly related to the mathematical analysis of the continuum of the manifold of real numbers, which cannot be applied to a discrete space. In this article we demythologize Aristotle’s idea that time is infinite, and we do so precisely at the great philosopher’s suggestion to consult a credible arbiter to decide, once and for all, whether there is in reality room for infinity.
