资源简介:
Bangladesh is the third largest global rice producing country and because of the scented character the production of aromatic rice in Bangladesh is profitable demanding a high price over low price coarse milled rice. Majority of the aromatic rice cultivars are low yielding but its higher price and low cost of cultivation generate higher profit margins compared to other varieties. The molecular genetics, biochemistry, and evolution of the aromatic gene have been elucidated in recent years as a consequence of the gene discovery. Aromatic rice has accumulated several natural mutations in an amino aldehyde dehydrogenase (AMADH) that oxidizes -amino butylaldehyde to -amino butyric acid (GABA). AMADH later on identified as BADH2 gene. Various mutations are responsible for aromatization in the Badh2 gene of rice. We found two aromatic cultivars did not follow the significant proportions. Thus, it is suggested that the deletion in the Badh2 gene is not the only cause of aromatization in rice, and that there is at least one other mutation at a second gene locus drives the aromatization. So all genes related to fragrance if identified, recent mutation technique like CRISPR could turn the high yielding non aromatic advanced rice varieties which are well adapted in Bangladesh into high yielding aromatic rice varieties.
