The endophyte microbiome of olive cultivars infected by Xylella fastidiosa

The microbiome of olive cultivars FS17 and Kalamata, both present in an orchard located in the outbreak area of southern Italy, were studied by WMSS, and 16S and ITS rRNA sequencing, at two different phenological stages (Spring and Autumn). The analysis aims to investigate (i) the xylem microbiome composition of olive cultivars FS17 and Kalamata showing a diverse response to the infection, (ii) the progress of the olive xylem microbiome upon Xylella infection and (iii) the possible (eventual) identification of bacterial/fungal microbes or consortia associated with the observed resistant phenotypes to be used in bio-control strategies.
