Survey Data on the Acceptance of Umami in Austria

The following information stems from a survey conducted in Austria, where participants voluntarily took part in face-to-face interviews at public locations such as universities and libraries. Responders did not receive any compensation; they only expressed interest in participating in the citizen science initiative. The survey was conducted anonymously and was restricted to individuals aged 17 and older. A total of 309 participants contributed to the dataset, with questions provided in their native language, German. Minors who participated in the survey did so with the consent of their parents or legal guardians. This survey data explores various aspects of perceptions and acceptance of glutamate in Austria, receiving support from the International Glutamate Technical Committee (IGTC) based in Washington, DC, USA. It's important to note that the funding source had no role in the research process. The data and supplementary materials are organized into three files: (1) the raw survey data in .csv format (UmamiSurvey_Austria_row_DE&EN.csv), which consists of 38 variables, and the responses of all 309 participants. Any blank responses in the dataset indicate that the respondents chose not to answer. Additionally, the survey encompassed demographics such as age, gender, height, weight, and smoking habits, as well as participants' places of residence (ranging from countryside/village to city or large city), their eating habits regarding salt and sweetness, and their preferences for other basic tastes, along with details about their sports activities and smoking behaviors. When used alongside the raw data, this codebook acts as a valuable resource for navigating through the dataset.
