A bison mandible containing teeth from the Trinomial 41CR30 site in West Texas was
submitted for analysis of calculus and tooth impacta (Table 1) to identify the environment in
which this bison had been grazing. The site is a late prehistoric bison kill site located in the
Monahans Sand Dunes, Crane County, TX. This area is currently classified as a transitional
zone between the Southern High Plains and the Chihuahuan Biotic Provenience. Phytolith
analysis should provide some information as to the general environment and climate this bison
experienced.
