In order to control potato diseases (Fusarium solani, pectobacterium carotovorum, and pectobacterium atrosepticum), biocontrol bacteria were first isolated from soil (potato rhizosphere). The best strains (among 500 isolates) that were effective in controlling potato pathogens were then sequenced and the clusters of genes producing secondary metabolites and antibiotics effective in controlling the pathogens were compared.
