Sequencing S. cerevisiae strain pair used for chromosome biology in meiosis

The strains examined here have been used in numerous, published studies of meiotic chromosome behavior. These two haploid strains, X55 and Y169, and derivatives from molecular genetic manipulation, are maintained separately and mated to form meiosis-competent diploids just prior to each experiment. This approach introduces heterozygosity, thus more closely mimicking natural meiosis in larger organisms. In addition, this approach reduces the possibility that strain derivation can introduce confounding, homozygous mutations.
