Metagenomic insight into the bacterial diversity and antibiotic resistome of Ganga water collected from bathing ghats in Varanasi, Nothen India

Metagenomic insight into the bacterial diversity and antibiotic resistome of Ganga water collected from bathing ghats in Varanasi, Nothern IndiaWe have collected water samples from two bathing ghats, Assi ghats and Dashashwamedh Ghat of river Ganga flowing through city Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The metagenomic DNA was extracted and sequenced. The metagenomic DNA representing Assi ghats sampe was named as AB, while metagenomic DNA extracted from Dashashwamedh was named as DB. Two samples wee analysed and showe the predominace of Proteobacteria. Antibiotic resistance profiling and virulence factor detection showed the presence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in two samples. Microbial genomes reconstructed from two metagenomes mostly represented novel candidates.
