Use of VA Benefits and Services: 2023 [Introduction, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3]

“The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is committed to delivering a wide array of benefits and services to eligible Veterans, dependents, and survivors to help to ease the transition from the military to civilian life and to improve quality of life after service. Considering the magnitude of this commitment it is important for VA and key VA stakeholders to understand the demographic and social characteristics of the Veteran population being served in order to optimize the planning and improvement of VA benefits and services.To promote this awareness the National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics (NCVAS) conducted a study on Veterans who have used at least one of the benefits or services (referred to as "users") provided by VA during Fiscal Years 2010 through 2023. Part 1 of this report presents basic characteristics of the VA user population and trends in their use of benefits and services. Part 2 compares the Veteran user population to Veterans who have not used any VA benefits or services.
