资源简介:
Methods: On September 29, 2016 students used sweep nets and transects to sample insect communities and populations in the grasslands. Transects were placed randomly all over the grasslands, lab mates would walk the entire transect (30 metres) while sweeping within one metre on both sides of the transect. Lab mates would then proceed to carefully examine the sweep net and take account of how many total insects there were and how many different species there were.
Study site: The study took place at York University's Grassland. The lab was outdoors, and the weather was very cloudy.
Hypothesis:The more time it takes to go from one end of the transect to the other end, the more abundance of an insect population gets captured by the sweep net.
Predictions:1) Insects of the same species will be in small groups together, and so if you walk faster, you would be spending less time collecting bugs in one small area thus not getting many of the same species of insect 2) The amount of time spent in going through the transect has no effect on how much of an insect population is collected. A reason for this may be that some insect species do not stay together
Meta-Data:Attributes:1)Total number of insects: Numerical2) Total number of different species: Numerical
Group members: Brenda Espin, Kiana Malak Hosseini, Shunelle Prasad
