Diurnal Asymmetry and Structural Regime Shifts in Mediterranean Urban Temperature Records

This repository contains the datasets, analysis scripts, maps, and generated outputs associated with the study: “ Diurnal Asymmetry and Structural Regime Shifts in Mediterranean Urban Temperature Records ” The study investigates long-term temperature dynamics across twelve Mediterranean coastal cities during the period 1990–2020 using quality-controlled NOAA Integrated Surface Database (ISD) observations. The analysis combines monotonic trend detection, diurnal asymmetry diagnostics, extreme temperature indices, structural break detection, segmented regression, Monte Carlo synchronization analysis, and seasonal attribution of nighttime temperature regime shifts. The repository includes: • Daily Tmin and Tmax datasets for Mediterranean cities• Python scripts used for data processing, statistical analysis, and figure generation• Map shapefiles used for spatial visualization• Generated tables and figures corresponding to the manuscript results• Portable relative-path scripts suitable for reproducible execution• README documentation describing repository structure and workflow Main analyses reproduced by the scripts include: • Mann–Kendall trend analysis with trend-free prewhitening• Sen’s slope estimation• Diurnal Asymmetry Index (DAI) calculation• ETCCDI extreme temperature indices (TX90p and TN90p)• Pettitt change-point detection• Segmented regression analysis• Monte Carlo breakpoint synchronization testing• Seasonal breakpoint attribution analysis All scripts were corrected to remove hard-coded local paths and are designed to run using the following repository structure: Project root/├── Data/├── Maps/├── Results/└── Scripts/ All generated outputs are automatically written to the Results folder. The repository is intended to support transparency, reproducibility, and long-term archiving of the analyses presented in the manuscript.
