Species-specific scents, targeted enemies: Volatile cues mediate predator attraction in willows

This dataset contains raw data from a field experiment investigating herbivore-induced plant responses in two willow species, Salix cinerea and Salix fragilis. Plants were subjected to herbivore-specific elicitation using insect-derived extracts from beetles and caterpillars, mechanical leaf damage, or left untreated as controls. The experiment aimed to test whether different herbivory cues induce changes in volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and leaf optical properties under natural field conditions and whether such changes attract natural enemies of insect herbivores.The dataset includes (i) raw VOC emission data per sample obtained from dynamic headspace collections and analysed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), with individual compounds reported for each plant sample, and (ii) leaf spectral reflectance data measured using a spectrometer, covering the wavelength range relevant to plant visual traits.
