This volume includes circulars from the Department of Public Works kept by the District Works Office at Bourke.The circulars relate to: defence works undertaken by the Civil Construction Corps and the Allied Works Council, N.S.W. (A.W.C.) where the NSW Department of Public Works was the constructing authority; hire of private plant and lorries; departmental plant; council plant; and general instructions. The circulars include the subject and by whom issued and bear file numbers from the Department of Public Works correspondence series, such as Misc.43/1771 (Miscellaneous files) and D.W.43/6488.The Civil Construction Corps and the Allied Works Council were bodies under the Australian Commonwealth Department of the Interior and works were co-ordinated with the State War Effort Co-ordinating Committee.There is an index at the front of the volume.An annotation on the spine shows that the volume was previously used for Enngonia Bore, 19 January 1898-27 August 1899 but any entries relating to this period have been covered by the pasted circulars.
