Inflorescence miRNome of Orchis italica. Orchis italica

We characterized the entire miRNA population expressed in the floral buds of Orchis italica, a wild Mediterranean orchid species belonging to the sub-family Orchidoideae, by a next generation sequencing approach. Based on sequencing reads computational analysis, we analyzed the expression pattern of selected conserved and putative novel miRNAs in different floral tissues . In addition, we demonstrated for the first time the cleavage activity of a specific miRNA on one class B MADS-box transcript belonging to the DEF-like subfamily and compared the expression profile of this miRNA and its target in different floral tissues of O. italica.
