Invention-Protection and Industrialization in Prussia, 1793 - 1877.

The history of protection of an invention in Prussia is close connected with the economical and technical questions of industrialization of the 19th century. The central interest of this study is aimed at the part of the patent system in context of the innovationprozess during the early and main phases of industrialization. Further the patent system’s significance for prussian policy concerning trade and industry is analyzed. The question is which contribution is given by the protection of invention to the technical development and economical growth and, furthermore, which effects are assigned to the the invention’s protection by the economic politicians, the economic theorists, als well as the tradesmen, the engineers, and the innovators. Die Geschichte des Erfindungsschutzes in Preußen ist eng verbunden mit wirtschafts- und technikhistorischen Fragestellungen zur Industrialisierung im 19. Jahrhundert. Das erkenntnisleitende Interesse der vorliegenden Untersuchung ist daher auf die Rolle des Patentwesens bei dem Innovationsprozeß während der Früh- und Hochindustrialisierung gerichtet und damit verbunden auf seinen Stellenwert innerhalb der staatlichen preußischen Gewerbepolitik. Dabei geht es um die Frage, welchen Beitrag der Erfindungsschutz zum technischen Fortschritt und wirtschaftlichen Wachstum geliefert hat und welche Wírkungen ihm die Wirtschaftspolitiker und –theoretiker, aber auch die Gewerbetreibenen, Erfiner und Ingenieure zugebilligt haben.
