Bacillus thuringiensis as a Gram-positive soil bacterium, is a member of the B. cereus group. B. thuringiensis (Bt) possesses crystal like parasporal proteinaceous inclusions which have unique and selective biocidal activities on different insects, nematodes and human cancer cells. The project study was conducted to identify the parasporin genes and in vitro anticancer activity of parasporal Cry proteins of Bt strains identified from different regions of Bangladesh. B. thuringiensis strain 45L produces one parasporal Cry protein that showed strong cytotoxic activity against the human cervical cancer cell line (HeLa cell line). The project of whole genome sequencing of B. thuringiensis strain 45L was therefore undertaken to reveal the potential insights of the bacterium.
