资源简介:
Inter-tidal molluscs (shellfish and sea snails) are important keystones of the food web in Port Phillip Bay (Victoria). They help contribute about $11 billion worth of ecosystem services of Port Phillip Bay to the State of Victoria by filtering water and making free nitrogen available to the food chain. They are food for many animals, including native and migratory water birds. With rising sea levels diminishing the inter-tidal zone between the sea and human development, inter-tidal molluscs face habitat loss and may disappear, which would have a negative effect on the important functions they perform. This project monitors the populations long-term, and uses the results to advocate for positive environmental action with government and the community.
