Dunaliellu bardawil belongs to Dunaliellu, Chlorophyta. The halotolerant alga Dunaliellu bardawil possesses the unique ability to accumulate a very high content of β-carotene. The amount ofβ-carotene in D. bardawil can be manipulated by changing growth conditions and its content can reach to 100 g under certain condtions. Furthermore, compared with other green algae and higher plants, this alga lacks an indigestible cellulotic cell wall, and so has made it a favourite organism for study as a health food rich inβ-carotene and as a source of natural food colouring. This project assembles the first whole genome for Dunaliella bardawil from the Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) data.
