Major U.S. programs as a share of the federal budget 2010-2018

Medicare is a major part of U.S. healthcare spending. As of 2018 Medicare expenditure was approximately the same expenditure as the U.S. defense budget at around 15 percent of the overall federal budget. Comparatively, Social Security accounted for about 24 percent of the U.S. federal budget during that time.
