Images from an Archaeological Excavation at Cell R5, Lambton Park, Chester Road, Bournmoor, County Durham, November 2023

This collection comprises images from an Archaeological Excavation at Cell R5, Lambton Park, Chester Road, Bournmoor, County Durham. Work was carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited in November 2023. The archaeological work involved excavating an area 400m2 in size that was located over a small group of features identified within the centre of Trench 10 from a previous phase of trial trenching evaluation undertaken at the site.
The trenching uncovered two ditches and three or four gullies, all of which were undated. These were interpreted in the evaluation report as a probable prehistoric settlement focus, mainly based on their stratigraphic relationship with a medieval or post-medieval plough furrows.
