This dataset provides comprehensive experimental evidence and quantitative measurements regarding the influence of different support structure configurations (Cross, Line, and Pillar supports) on the build stability and surface integrity of large-scale SUS316L stainless steel blocks (80 × 60 × 30 mm) fabricated via Selective Laser Melting (SLM). The repository contains the following primary data: 1. Experimental Photographs: High-resolution images documenting the in-situ build process and post-print analysis. This includes visual evidence of structural failures (severe delamination and thermal warping) encountered with Cross and Line support configurations, as well as the successful fabrication achieved with the Pillar support architecture. 2. Raw Surface Roughness Measurements: Comprehensive data files containing arithmetic mean roughness (Ra), maximum peak height (Rz), and total profile height (Rt). These measurements were collected from 60 distinct locations across all six orientations of the successfully printed specimen using a high-precision Surfcom Nex 001 profilometer, strictly adhering to the ISO 4288:1996 standard. 3. Statistical Analysis: Processed data used to generate comparative plots, highlighting the significant disparity in surface quality between free-standing and support-interfaced surfaces. These data are intended to support the investigation into failure mechanisms driven by the Thermal Gradient Mechanism (TGM) and to provide a technical roadmap for determining machining allowances in industrial-scale metal additive manufacturing.
