The volumes in this series contain samples of the lettering and ornaments (eg. coats of arms, shield, crowns, ships, borders, rules, corners, signs and characters) used by the Government Printing Office in1882.The frontispieces of the volumes consists of a photograph, presumably of the Government Printer, Thomas Richards; a group photograph of Printing Office officers (the individuals are identified); and an unidentified photograph of a group of women. A list of Government Printing Office officers, 1882, is also included in two of the volumes. The Appendix to the volumes contain a description and a listing of the contents of the "Queen's Album", which contained reproductions of "some of the best photographic productions shown in the International Exhibition of the Colony, 1879-80" and was presented to the Queen by the New South Wales Government. The Appendix also includes reprints of newspaper comments about the album. One of the volumes is annotated "Chief Overseer".
