Replication Package of Renewable Energy Diffusion Through Trade

This replication package contains all necessary datasets, Stata scripts, and documentation to replicate the study titled "The Trade Route to Renewables: Import as a Catalyst for the Diffusion of Renewable Energy Technology." The study examines how international trade, particularly imports, facilitates the diffusion of renewable energy technology (RET) knowledge stock across countries.

- 00_Bilateral-Trade-Data-Compilation.do – Compiles and cleans bilateral trade data from ITC Trade Map, merges datasets, and removes inconsistencies.
- 0_RET-Diffusion-Data.do – Cleans, structures, and merges patent data with the compiled trade dataset.
- 01_RET-Trade-Data-Processing.do – Computes import and export-weighted RET knowledge exposure indices, and process macroeconomic & socioeconomic data.
- 02_RET-Trade-Regressions.do – Runs unit root tests, fixed-effects and IV regression models.
- 03_RET-Trade-Graphs-Residual-Charts.do – Creates graphs and charts from residual analysis

1. Trade Data
- TradeDataset_AppendedV1.dta – Initial compiled bilateral trade dataset before merging with other datasets.

- patent_raw.dta – Raw patent data for renewable energy technologies from Our World in Data (OWID).

- WD_index.dta – Dataset containing calculated import and export exposure indices, measuring trade-based knowledge spillovers.
