资源简介:
This volume contains a printed copy of the report and proceedings of the Maritime Conference held at Parliament House, Hobart from 21- 27 April 1894. Members attending the Conference consisted of the principal officers of the maritime departments of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria. The chief aim of the Conference was to formulate a national policy regarding the erection and maintenance of Lights at strategic positions along the coastline. It was recognised at the Conference that this would require a suspension of individual Colonial interests, and that co-operation in a "Federal system" may mark a step towards a greater federation.Other topics of discussion included in the Report and Proceedings are Regulations regarding the issue of varying types of maritime Certificates, the establishment of a Marine Board of Tasmania, use of a uniform system of signal flags, uniformity of fees, national publishing of Notices to Mariners, regulations for River Murray Steamers and other Steamships, regulations regarding load-lines, lifesaving appliances on vessels, and watertight bulkheads on harbour and river passenger vessels.Appendices to the Report and Proceedings include Extracts from Reports of the Lighthouse Commission 1856, and the Lighthouse Conference 1873, Correspondence from the Launceston Marine Board regarding Regulations and the issue of Certificates, a copy of the Merchant Shipping (Colonial) Act 1869, and a Chart showing positions of existing and proposed Lights in Australia and Tasmania, 1894.This bound copy of the report is stamped 'SUPERINTENDENT'
