Blackwell Grange Solar Farm (OASIS ID: cotswold2-282591)

The evaluation confirmed the results of a geophysical survey, which had identified the extensive remains of an Iron Age or Roman farmstead, with occupation concentrated in the central part of the site. The evaluation demonstrated that the settlement was probably established in the Middle Iron Age at the eastern edge of the site, with the focus of occupation shifting c. 300m to the west and becoming more concentrated in the later Iron Age. There was little evidence for the continuation of the farmstead into the Roman period, although Roman pottery dating to the 2nd century AD was recovered from a ditch at the northern edge of the site. However, it is not clear if this activity is related to the continued occupation of the farmstead or to some unrelated activity in the area at this time. Later features included furrows, the remains of a medieval open field system and modern land drains.
