Open Dataset: Leaving the Academy

Public Dataset for Open Post Academics’ Leaving the Academy project. In 2022 and 2023, Open Post Academics conducted a survey-based research project on the experiences of people who have left academia. Our survey had a total of 209 responses. For more information about this project and our insights, see our white paper available here: https://zenodo.org/record/8014703 This cleaned dataset and the accompanying white paper are released under a CC BY 4.0 2023 attribution license. The materials will remain available to anyone who wishes to do more with it. This will allow for researchers to extend and build on this work. It will also respond to the need for open qualitative datasets. In the public dataset we have omitted the entire response for any respondent who shared specific personal information even if they consented to the use of their data. This means that the public dataset has an n=190. We have also omitted several questions that would indicate specific individuals more readily including specific discipline, indications of the dimensions of underrepresentation, and what the respondent does now.
