Apigenin alleviates obesity-associated metabolic syndrome by regulating the composition of the gut microbiome

Our results reflect that Apigenin supplementation substantially improves HFD-induced gut dysbiosis and also restores intestinal barrier damage by alleviates metabolic endotoxemia. Potentially critical bacteria such as Faecalibaculum and Dubosiella that might mediate the metabolic protective effects of the Apigenin were identified. Furthermore, we show that the impact of Apigenin on the reduction of body weight and the modification of gut microbiota could be transferred from Apigenin-treated mice to HFD-fed mice via horizontal fecal microbiota transplantation.
