Burnout, Physical Symptoms, and Illness Incidence in Athletes: A Cross-National Study

Burnout is a growing public health concern. In recognition of its increasing importance, the World Health Organization recently updated its entry on burnout syndrome in its International Classification of Diseases. In sport, however, the health implications of burnout have been overlooked. This is particularly the case in relation to burnout’s effects on the immune system. With COVID-19 as a backdrop, our project sets to provide the first examination of burnout, physical symptoms, and illness incidence in athletes.
