Drosophila simulans strain w[XD1] genome sequence

During speciation, sex chromosomes often accumulate interspecific genetic incompatibilities faster than the rest of the genome. To study the role of sex chromosomes during speciation, we combined high-resolution genetic mapping of X-linked hybrid male sterility with population genomics analyses of divergence and recent gene flow between the fruitfly species, Drosophila mauritiana and D. simulans. To identify the genes and mutations causing hybrid male sterility, we sequenced the D. simulans strain used in our study, sim w[XD1].
