After germinating the seeds of G. sinensis, G. japonica, G. microphylla, G. delavayi, and G. fera, seedlings that had sprouted for about 15 days after exposure to light were selected as scions for grafting. Wedge grafting was used as the grafting method, and 0.25-0.35mm grafting clips were used to secure the scions. The grafting clips were removed after successful grafting. Three months after successful grafting, seedlings of the same age (G. sinensis, G. japonica, G. microphylla, G. delavayi, and G. fera) were selected for grafting. The scions were either from the same source (G. sinensis/G. sinensis, G. japonica/G. japonica, G. microphylla/G. microphylla, G. delavayi/G. delavayi, and G. fera/G. fera) or from different sources (G. sinensis/G. japonica, G. sinensis/G. microphylla, G. sinensis/G. delavayi, G. sinensis/G. fera).
