Computational Analysis of the Zoo-Lexicon in Podillia Region Folk Songs

This dataset supports a computational analysis of animal-related vocabulary (zoo-lexicon) in Ukrainian folk songs from the Podillia region. Drawing from a corpus of 2,762 songs, the study uses a custom R script to examine the frequency, grammatical number and gender, distribution across genres, and semantic co-occurrence of zoo-lexical elements. The research was conducted using the R programming language (version 4.4.1) and RStudio (version 2024.04.2+764) at the Estonian Literary Museum. This dataset includes the following files: corpus_Podillia_folk_songs.csv – A structured corpus of Ukrainian folk songs from the Podillia region, compiled from multiple printed sources. It includes metadata and text used for zoo-lexicon analysis. zoo_lexicon_analysis_Ukrainian_folk_songs.R – An R script that implements the full zoo-lexical analysis workflow, including dictionary construction, frequency analysis, grammatical feature extraction, genre distribution evaluation, and semantic network visualization.
