Microbial analysis of saliva samples using Nanopore Sequencing Technology

Comparison of two different DNA extraction kits one focusing on mechanical lysis (PureLink Microbiome DNA Purification Kit) and the other on chemical lysis (QIAamp DNA Mini Kit) in the process of 16S rRNA gene sequencing with Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Saliva samples from four participants served as a pilot group for workflow assessment. A commercially available microbial community standard and saliva samples of these participants were examined to define the performance of the nanopore sequencing system and the EPI2ME software for data analysis. The final workflow established and described here provides a fast and effective internal sequencing system for the analysis of microbiomes.
