Corynebacterium confusum clinical human isolates

Four isolates were recovered from three patients: a 41-year-old male with lower limb abscess, a 27-year-old female with leg ulcer (two isolates obtained 9 months apart), and an 82-year-old female with peritoneal catheter exit-site infection. Universal resistance was observed to clindamycin, tetracycline, fosfomycin, and vibriostatic factor O/129. Sequential isolates obtained 9 months apart from the same patient harboured the erm(X) gene, conferring high-level macrolide-lincosamide resistance with MICs >256 mg/L for clindamycin and erythromycin.
