Anaerobic oxidation of methane in the Black Sea. microbial mat metagenome

Metagenomic fosmid libraries were constructed from a methanotrophic microbial mat growing in the Black Sea. ANME-1 is a phylogenetic group of anaerobic methanotrophic archaea, involved in decreasing the flux of the climate gas methane to the atmosphere. This is the first high quality composite draft genome sequence of this environmentally relevant archaea.
