PROJECT DESCRIPTION:<br> The synthesis and isolation of the pyridyl-substituted ketenyl anion via metalation and subsequent carbonylation of the readily available pyridyl ylide are described. Quantum chemical calculations revealed extensive delocalization of the negative charge across the entire molecular framework, resulting in multiple nucleophilic sites that are best described by a series of resonance structures. This electronic structure is corroborated by IR spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction data, which indicate a markedly compressed C–C–C–O moiety. The pronounced charge delocalization gives rise to diverse reactivity profiles and promotes cyclization pathways involving the pyridine nitrogen. Accordingly, the pyridyl ketenyl anion serves as a versatile precursor for the construction of heterocycles featuring triazolone, quinolizine, and indolizine motifs, highlighting its potential as a broadly applicable building block in heterocycle synthesis. <br> <br> DATASET DESCRIPTION:<br> Single folders were created for all isolated compounds with the names in accordance to the labeling in the manuscript. Within those folders, subfolders for each experiment types (NMR, IR, EA, HRMS, UVvis) and Computations (Orca) were created with the related data within those folders. The names of the raw-data folders are in accordance with the electronic-laboratory-journal (ELN) used in the Gessner-group, with additional descriptive information, which compound and/or which reaction is contained in that folder. <br><br> Programs that can be used to open the data:<br> EA: PDF with the measurement data were provided.<br> UVvis: PDF and excel files as well as the raw data were provided. The raw data can be opened with the LabSolutions (Rigaku) software package (an open source alternative would be the software "OpenChrom")<br> IR: The data can be opened with Labsolutions (Rigaku) software (an open source alternative would be the software "OpenChrom").
