23-02-15 Calibration of water velocity through the apparatus by measuring discharge per unit time

Water discharge through the apparatus was controlled by a gate valve which was opened in a series of steps. The volume of water discharging into a container over a unit time was measured. From this, velocities could be calculated. Velocity was also measured by passing a small piece of paper suspended in the water through the apparatus and measuring its speed in m/s at each step in the opening of the gate valve. Results from the two methods were similar.
