VPRS 19936 Committee of Management Files

This series comprises files documenting the appointment of members of committees of management, and related correspondence, for Crown land reserves. Committees of management are appointed as delegates of the Minister responsible for the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978 to manage Crown land reserves. Many reserves are managed directly by local government entities, committees of management, and private entities under leases or licences.  The role of committees of management is defined in the Crown Land (Reserves) Act 1978 as to ‘manage, improve, maintain and control’ the reserve for the purposes for which it is reserved. A committee is legally accountable to the responsible minister for all its decisions and actions, and ‘in a broader sense, it is also accountable to reserve users and the general community for ensuring that the reserve is managed in the public interest’. Each file contains the instruments of appointment for the committee of management for that Crown land reserve, as well as any related correspondence.
