Change in U.S. annual heaviest precipitation events by region 1958-2016

The heaviest precipitation events are becoming more intense and more frequent across the United States, most notably in the Northeast and Midwest. These regions experienced a 55 percent and 42 percent increase in precipitation falling in the heaviest one percent of events between 1958 and 2016, respectively.
