Magnetically-actuated iron oxide nanoparticles (MNP) have emerged as a technology to chronically expose axons of developing neurons to extremely low mechanical forces. This force was found to induce axon outgrowth. Axon-Seq has been performed to profile local gene expression in response to the stimulus. Mouse hippocampal neurons were incubated with a growth medium modified with MNPs. Two conditions were analysed (cell cultures treated with a magnetic field or a null magnetic field).
