资源简介:
Archaeological samples from Loci Band C of the Scripps Poway Parkway east project
(Site CA-SDI-4608) were analyzed for pollen, phytoliths, starches, macrofloral remains, and/or
possible protein residues. This site contains multiple cultural components ranging from Paleo
Indian through Late Prehistoric. The majority of the analyses focused on artifact utilization (i.e.
artifact washes and associated soil control samples), in an effort to better understand not only
functional differences between different varieties of artifacts, but also to identify any trends in
resource utilization. Pollen, phytolith and starch granule analyses provide a means of identifying
plant material that may have been processed on or with the artifact of concern. Additionally,
information gathered from these analyses on soil control samples may provide insight on plant
utilization within the general area. Protein residue analysis is most effective in helping to
determine faunal resources processed on or with the artifact in concern. Macrofloral samples
from three sediment columns scattered over the site provide information concerning floral and
faunal resources utilized in the area over the time period represented.
