Daily peak activity and peak timing data for SR intensity, MTG flashes, MTG groups, and WWLLN strokes between August 2024 to July 2025

The “peak_and_timing_2024_08_2025_07.csv” file contains the date, the peak value and timing of the SR intensity, and the peak rates and their timings for MTG flashes, MTG groups, and WWLLN strokes, for the period 1st of August 2024 to 31st of July 2025. The file is comma-separated with missing values (due to measurement errors) indicated with NaN. Days that were later filtered out manually due to inadequate quality are still presented in this file. Dates in the first column are in the format of “YYYY.MM.DD” where YYYY is the year, MM is the month and DD is the day. Data in column ‘SR_max’ are created from the 12-minute resolution first mode Schumann resonance (SR) intensity data, in pT, corresponding to the east-west magnetic field component, from the Hornsund (HRN, 77.0°N, 15.6°E) station. To obtain the values in the file, the time segment with the highest SR intensity between 11 and 19 UT has been selected. The start time of the chosen 12-minute segment is indicated at the “SR_max_ts” column in “YYYY.MM.DD hh:mm” format, where hh is the hour and mm is the minute. Data in columns “MTG_max_flash” and “MTG_max_group” are created from EUMETSAT’s Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellite's Lighting Imager (LI) instrument’s flash and group detections. Detections between the geographical limits 40°S to 35°N and 20°W to 55°E were aggregated in 12-minute bins and the highest count bin between 11 and 19 UT were chosen for each available day. Thus, the unit of the data in these columns are in detections/12 minutes. Data in the columns “MTG_max_flash_ts” and “MTG_max_group_ts” are the start times of the chosen 12-minutes segments in “YYYY.MM.DD hh:mm” format. Data in column “WWLLN_max” are created from the World Wide Lightning Location Network’s (WWLLN) “AE” product. The same geographical filtering and 12-minute binning were applied as for the MTG products.
