Arundo spp. Raw sequence reads

Giant reed (Arundo donax) is a perennial rhizomatous C3 grass. It has been identified as the most promising feedstock for second generation biofuels and biomethane production in European biomass Industry. Transposable elements (TEs) are the most abundant genetic material for almost all eukaryotic genomes and their effects on the host genomes are deep and dramatic ranging from extensive genome size variation to regulation of gene expression, altering gene function and creating novel genes. In this study, low coverage illumina whole genome shotgun sequencing of A. donax and its ancestral A. plinii species were used to characterize the repetitive fraction of two genomes in order to gain a better understanding of the two species genome evolution.
