Flow, available online 2 April 2026https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijmultiphaseflow.2026.105712Corresponding author: Wim-Paul Breugem, w.p.breugem@tudelft.nl<br>In this publication, the hydrodynamic stability is analysed of a viscous liquid jet enclosed by a much less viscous fluid in a narrow vertical tube. In literature, this flow pattern is also known as perfect core-annular flow. The main objective is to unravel the competition between capillary and shear-driven instability mechanisms acting on the flow. The temporal stability of the flow was tested under laminar conditions for a small axisymmetric sinusoidal perturbation of the interface. To this purpose, numerical simulations were conducted with the open-source CFD software OpenFOAM using the two-phase incompressible flow solver interFoam combined with a geometric Volume-of-Fluid method to capture the interface between the immiscible fluids.<br>The dataset contains videos of the flow development for selected cases, and the OpenFOAM case files for all 13 simulation cases described in the publication.
