When using this data, please cite our paper: Jäger, W. S., de Ruiter, M. C., Tiggeloven, T., and Ward, P. J.: What can we learn from global disaster records about multi-hazards and their risk dynamics?, Nat. Hazards Earth Syst. Sci. Discuss. [preprint], https://doi.org/10.5194/nhess-2024-134, in review, 2024. This data set contains single-hazard and multi-hazard events and their impacts based on EM-DAT disaster records (Delforge et al., 2023) and GDIS disaster locations (Rosvold and Buhaug, 2021). The events have been derived using information on associated hazards as well as spatiotemporal relationships between disaster records using the methodology in Jäger et al. (2025).    Events are derived using different temporal and spatial overlap critera. Each file corresponds to a set of criteria as indicated by the filename df_events_and_impacts__. The analysis in our paper is based on df_events_and_impacts_0.5_91.csv Within the files, each row contains an event which consists of one or more disaster records. Below table lists the columns and their definitions.  Column Description Records List of EM-DAT disaster records that are part of the event. Disaster records are represented by their disaster number ("Dis No'")  No records Number of EM-DAT disaster records that are part of the event. Hazards List of hazards that are part of the event. No hazards Number of hazards that are part of the event. Total deaths Total number of deaths of the event. This number is derived by adding the 'Number of deaths' of the EM-DAT disaster records in the event. Missing values are treated as zero. Total affected Total number of affected people of the event. This number is derived by adding 'Number of people affected' of the EM-DAT disaster records in the event. Missing values are treated as zero. Total damages Total damages of the event. This number is derived by adding the values of 'Total economic damage in US $ adjusted for inflation' of EM-DAT disaster records in the event. Missing values are treated as zero. Time lag Maximum time lag [days] for which disaster records are considered to be part of the same event  Spatial overlap Minimum spatial overlap [%] for which disaster records are considered to be part of the same event
