In accordance with the requirements of the task statement, the Pump Project completed 285 km of deep seismic reflection profile surveys between 2019 and 2021. The project team processed the acquired data and obtained stacked profiles, which reveal the fine-scale crustal structure of the Hoh Xil region. This is the first high-resolution deep seismic reflection profile acquired by the project team in the uninhabited Hoh Xil region after overcoming various difficulties during winter construction. The imaging results show that the profile contains abundant seismic wave group information in its shallow, intermediate and deep layers. These findings address key scientific questions including the subduction polarity of the Jinsha River Suture Zone based on deep crustal structures, the formation mechanism of the extremely thick crust in the Northern Tibetan Plateau, the formation mechanism of the plateau ecological barrier, and whether the Eurasian Plate subducted southward beneath the Tibetan Plateau.
