NRS-19744 | Conditional lease registers [Walcha Lands Office]

These registers contain a summary record of all Conditional Leases applied for in the Land District of Walcha, kept by the Walcha Lands Office.An application for a Conditional Lease would be submitted to the local Crown Land Agent, together with a deposit. Upon receipt of such an application, the Agent would enter the details into this register. Each new application was numbered in consecutive order, beginning at one at the start of each calendar year.Once the application for a Conditional Lease had been approved and the details published in the NSW Government Gazette, this register was then used to record each rent payment made by the Leasee and by any subsequent transferees.Prior to the introduction of this series, Crown Land Agents kept two series of registers for Conditional Lease information – one to record applications for leases, and one to record approved leases with entries of rent payments. The new series of registers were designed to amalgamate the two series, thereby creating greater efficiency in the Lands Office.The register records information such as the names and addresses of the applicant or transferee, the date of application or transfer, a description of the land applied for, the deposit and survey fee required, the portion number, the date of notice in the Gazette, the rent payments made, the periods paid for and the dates of payment, the appraised value of improvements, and particulars of the Conditional Purchase to which the Lease is attached.
