Shotgun Metagenomic Sequencing of Wild Fermented Ciders

This project investigates the microbial communities present in wild fermented apple cider produced from U.S. West Coast. Shotgun metagenomic sequencing was performed on DNA extracted from cider bottle sediment collected post-fermentation from six independent cider batches and an associated extraction control. The study aims to characterize taxonomic composition and microbial diversity of spontaneous cider fermentation communities in order to begin defining a potential core microbiota.
