资源简介:
The Chilean 1,000 Genomes initiative is the first national effort dedicated to unveiling the unique DNA characteristics of species that are distinctive and representative of Chile. Additionally, it aims to promote scientific education in genomics at all levels. This nationwide endeavor engages a diverse range of participants, including citizens, government bodies, and the private sector. The scientific goal of the 1,000 Chilean Genomes project is to characterize Chile's genomic biodiversity, focusing on endemic, native, culturally significant, and commercially relevant species while also advancing scientific knowledge and human capital development in genomics to enhance our understanding of Chile's biodiversity. This collaborative and multidisciplinary initiative brings together Chilean scientific centers of excellence, researchers from top universities, and a team dedicated to public outreach and scientific education. Launched in 2018 by the Center for Genome Regulation (CGR), within the framework of the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP), the Chilean 1,000 Genomes project has since explored the genomics of endemic species relevant to genetic heritage conservation, natural resources, agriculture, and aquaculture. Reactivated in 2024, it now concentrates on advancing genomic knowledge in Chile and sequencing de novo reference genomes of native, non-human eukaryotic species, key resources for sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and biotechnological innovation in sectors that drive the national economy.
