Frescos. Santa Fiora, Tuscany

Frescos along the top of a wall of the administration building in Santa Fiora, Grosseto, Tuscany. The main subject is a rich allegory of the four seasons, represented by 4 main characters depicted at the center of each wall; a cycle of frescoes commissioned by the earl and duke Alessandro Sforza to Cavalier D'Arpino (a prominent artist of the papal court in Rome) around 1612. The baroque paintings cover a previous Renaissance decoration dating to the second half of 16th c. and commissioned probably by the duke Mario I and one of the family Cardinals (Guido Ascanio Sforza or Alessandro Sforza).
