Hypothesis: There is a significant difference in the number of species attracted to specific coloured traps. Predictions: 1. Brighter colors such as Yellow and light blue would attract the greatest number of flying insects. 2. Less floral colors such as dark blue and white would attract the least number of flying insects. Methods: A total of 18 colored plates were placed equally in the woodlot and grassland (9 plates respectively). Each plate was filled with soapy water upon arrival to the site. The plates were placed specifically to ensure a fair collection of data and were analyzed for RTUs and abundance at the end of the lab. Meta-analysis: Abundance: Bowls were placed within a given area specific to their color in order to collect flying insects and pollinators. They were placed with each color on a specific end of the area in order to attract any and all insects approaching the area in any direction. The abundance was counted by how many total insects were collected per color. Number of Species: A count of how many of each species was being recorded to illustrate how each color trapped specific insects more or less than others. Location: The bowls were placed using the same method in two distinct areas in order to see if species behaved and are attracted to colors differently within grasslands and woodlots.
